1. Low-fat yogurt

From the point of view of the feeling of satiety, it makes the most sense to choose foods you can chew for a long time. This will make you feel fuller for longer. However, yogurt that melts in your mouth does not have the same effect.

To avoid starving yourself, eat a high-quality, full-fat, sugar-free yogurt with granola, fresh or frozen berries, and nuts. This combination contains more fiber, which provides satiety. Also, low-fat yogurt often contains sweeteners that spike blood sugar levels but no healthy fat to make you feel full.

2. Fruit smoothies

If the smoothie does not contain protein or vegetables, it will only consist of fructose. This means that a fruit smoothie is unlikely to keep you full for long – the result is more likely to be a rapid rise in blood sugar levels, followed by a quick drop and a strong feeling of hunger.

3. Egg whites

If you’re toying with giving up egg yolks to cut calories, keep in mind that you won’t feel full for long. Egg yolks are considered a “complete protein” because of the amino acids the body uses to build cells. Recent studies show that the amount of saturated fat and cholesterol in whole eggs is not harmful.

Thin, tender, buttery layers of croissants are perfect for a romantic breakfast with a cup of coffee and orange juice. But unfortunately, such foods do not provide a long-lasting feeling of satiety. The croissant contains few healthy nutrients but a lot of white flour and fat. The same goes for bagels. The weightless rolls provide more calories than whole-grain bread and still make you hungry.

6. Salty snacks

Salty snacks like cookies and pretzels are high in sodium and often low in fiber and protein, so they are not recommended. The lack of protein and fiber means that the snacks contain a lot of carbohydrates and are unbalanced, which inevitably leads to a spike in blood sugar.

The high salt content in these snacks causes dehydration and can lead to eating more snacks instead of simply reaching for a glass of water. Sodium is also known to trigger dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure. That means the more salty foods you eat, the more of them you want. It may seem that fried or boiled potatoes satisfy hunger better than most other foods, but when you deep-fry potatoes in oil and sprinkle them with salt, you get the opposite effect. In addition, French fries often contain more fat and salt than regular potatoes, which poses a health risk.

8. White rice

Plain white rice can spike blood sugar levels and then lower them, making you feel hungry. If you don’t want to overeat, choose brown rice, which doesn’t spike blood sugar and doesn’t drop it.

9. White bread

White bread does not contain the fiber and nutrients found in whole-grain products. The best solution, of course, is to eat whole-grain bread, and there are plenty of them: whole-grain, rye, and even multigrain combinations.

10. Canned soup

Canned soups often contain more sodium than any other meal. Sodium in a seemingly harmless product causes a feeling of addiction and a desire to consume more and more of it. So store-bought soup is hardly suitable to effectively and safely satisfy hunger.
